The Goat Trails
of Palm Springs

The San Jacinto Mountains are noted for their beauty, as they run alongside the incredible Pacific Crest Trail. Many visitors think of the San Jacinto Mountain range as a “sky island.” This characterization stems from the mountain range containing many species of fauna and flora that are an exquisite find for nature's lovers.

The Goat Trails are located at the base of the San Jacinto Mountains on the eastern side. The Goat Trails of Palm Springs enables riders to take advantage of a plethora of variety that ranges from a gradual, swooping downhill that is ruggedly exposed, to a steep climb that leads to a panoramic view that is described as unforgettable.

Most of the trail is a single-technical track. Riders who enjoy the trail the most are those that do not mind an expansive variety of cacti and rocks. The Goat Trails of Palm Springs offer riders the reward of breath-taking “awesome” views from the closeness of a narrow, single-track.

The Goat Trails of Palm Springs is anywhere from seven to fourteen miles. However, it is important to note that the miles seem to be “long,” and you will feel like you went much further than you did in reality. This is the perfect trail to give your lungs a terrific workout.

The biggest hazard of the trail is the exposure to cacti on the narrow trail. Also, if you ride this trail in the months of summer, the heat can be dangerously high. On the plus side, there is always a town that is never far away.

Directions: To reach the Goat Trails of Palm Springs, Take HWY 111 and follow it until you reach the Rimrock Shopping Center, which intersects with the well-known Gene Autry Trail.
